Presenting the report Suffocating the Movement – Shrinking space for women’s rights
Yesterday Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation, in cooperation with Women's Rights Center, presented the report Suffocating the Movement – Shrinking space for women's rights in Podgorica and organized a panel discussion with representatives of NGOs in Montenegro.
Maja Stajčić Riza Aragon introduced the findings of the report which deals with huge obstacles that women face around the world in their fight for human rights and equality. She explained that the report is a result of the research conducted by Kvinna till Kvinna which included 123 activists from civil society in 32 countries of EU, Balkans, north Africa etc.
Participants of the panel discussion were Ljupka Kovačević and Ervina Dabižinović from an NGO Anima, activist for transgender rights Jovan Ulićević from NGO Spectra, and Maja Raičević from Women’s Rights Center was moderating the discussion.
Representatives from ANIMA presented their findings on what are the needs of women NGO in Montenegro and discussed how their space for operating was, among other things, limited by the complicated procedures imposed by the institutions. NGO Spectra representative talked about transgender rights and in which way they, as a community, are affected when it comes to shrinking the space to fight for human rights.
The audience was very interested in the topic and the results of the presented research, so the whole discussion was interactive and dynamic.
