Workshops for the Improvement of the Process of Resocialization of Female Persons Imprisoned at the Institute for Execution of Criminal Sanctions

n August 2015, “Women's Rights Center” began the implementation of the project “Workshops for the Improvement of the Process of Resocialization of Female Persons Imprisoned at the Institute for Execution of Criminal Sanctions” This project is being implemented in partnership with the Institute for Execution of Criminal Sanctions (ZIKS) as part of the project “Directing prisons to the community” implemented by the NGOs “Juventas” and “Human Rights Action” with the financial support of the European Union.
The main objective of the project is to improve the resocialization capacity of prisoners after their imprisonment.
The experiences of the “Women's Rights Center” in dealing with persons who have experienced domestic violence through programs of psychological support and economic empowerment through creative workshops are the basis for the creation of a model program for working with women serving prison sentences: although these are completely different social categories, there is a common factor affecting the position of all women in Montenegro, which is, above all, patriarchal social order that teaches women to take a subordinate position towards men that denies them economic equality, as well as equal rights and opportunities for employment.
Through the realization of psychological and creative workshops, convicts have the opportunity to work on building their self-esteem and self-respect (personality traits that  often suffer when serving a prison sentence), developing communication and social skills, improving the quality of relationships with their family members, mastering group work skills , perfecting in creative and craft skills. The acquisition of these abilities has a direct impact on the quality of their re-socialization.
The implementation of the project will last until December 2015.
